Cthulhu Ferguson
Cthulhu Ferguson
It began in 1855 with the birth of a boy. His mother was a girl from the Orkney Islands. His father was unknown, though the child's given name "Cthulhu Ferguson" certainly made the natives wonder. From the beginning, he was mercilessly teased in school for his large, squid-shaped head, his big red eyes, and, of course, his tentacles. Once his tormentors began to vanish, he realized it was time to move on.
The next seventy-five years were a blur: the opium dens of London; glorious (some might say hideous) fighting in the Boer War, World War I, and World War II; a brief, self-imposed exile in the Channel Islands. Finally, he returned to London in time for the Sixties music scene. Borrowing a cheap guitar, he soon learned to play, although limited by his lack of fingers.
After fruitless years trying to break into the music business, he finally determined that he could not do it alone. About the time young Cthulhu picked up his first guitar, Pablo Reverte was born to a family of poor Spanish immigrants in Innsmouth, a strange New England fishing village. A religiously-devout child, he attended the local Catholic church regularly, where he displayed an impressive knowledge of the Bible and a tendency to ask uncomfortable questions. Later, Pablo joined a seminary and eventually was ordained in the Dominican order.
His life changed dramatically following a missionary trip to Peru, during which he became lost in the jungles near Macchu Picchu. Afterward, his preaching took on dark overtones. Disturbed by his references to "Elder Gods", the Catholic Church removed him from the pulpit and sent him to a monastery. Refusing to abandon his strange obsessions, Pablo was finally asked to leave the church altogether in 1999.
Then there was Thomas T. Thomas III (known to his friends as 3T3), who was born in a cabin in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in 1970. Home-schooled by a single mother who was regarded by her neighbors as "peculiar", 3T3 became a voracious reader, learning to speak and read 17 languages by the time he was 18 years old. His knowledge was incredible and startling to the rural population.
Particularly disturbing was his insistent belief that he had lived previous lives as both Rasputin and Yukio Mishima. After the sudden disappearance of several local residents, the villagers chased the boy out of town, swearing that the world would never abide by such blasphemous ideas. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where, seemingly, his words and actions alarmed no one. After receiving his Masters in Library Science, Thomas worked at a succession of research libraries.
Four times he was forced to leave his position after strange fires apparently destroyed each library's collection of rare occult books. Coincidentally, 3T3 now owns a large collection of rare occult books. I met these three unique individuals separately: Cthulhu Ferguson at an infamously ill-fated family reunion in 1992, Fr. Pablo Reverte at Gen-Con 1997, and 3T3 while researching at the Milwaukee County Historical Society in 2000.
I decided that the four of us had too much in common not to get together. We spent many long nights discussing alternate theories of the history of the world, conversing in strange and forbidden languages, and eating pizza. It was inevitable that we would start a band. With my songs, and help from our friend Henry Blanco, "Cthulhu Ferguson" has developed a quirky but enjoyable sound.
It isn't easy keeping these three on the same page, but I do my best. We hope that you enjoy this music as much as we do. Paul-Thomas Ferguson Songwriter and Manager User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License and may also be available under the GNU FDL..
