Carpenters Union
Carpenters Union
What began as a last-ditch effort for the big labels to take one last shot at cashing in on pop music, putting together what could have been the greatest boy band ever turned out instead to be Carpenters Union - a few guys who like writing their own Canadiana-induced pop melodies and seeing where it takes them. With no label interest whatsoever.
Ted Stalin (aka Superman), Shawn Hall, Michael Scott and Stuart Hendrie, like the four corners of the world, are four members of this band. um. ya.

ya. For a sound unlike anyone.... Picture Neil Young joining the Beach Boys, trying to sing like Bruce Springsteen and relocating the whole band to Montana. Now picture a cat riding a pony.
Isn't that the funniest thing? If it's not on YouTube, it should be. ....... The songs were developed over a half-dozen jam sessions in a rented space in Burlington - the hometown of Shawn and Stu - where everyone learned the chords and arrangements well enough to put down some tracks in Stu's basement. Never ones to say no to playing live or drinking the last beer in your fridge, Carpenters Union is setting out on a well-beaten path to relative obscurity in the burgeoning Canadian indie music scene.
And if they don't ride the coat-tails of similar sounding bands before them (Joel Plaskett Emergency, Wheat Pool, Matthew Barber, Justin Rutledge) to gain "oh-ya, i heard of them" recognition, they'll at least have fun telling girls lies about touring with Blue Rodeo and the Rheostatics.
