Carmen Miranda, born in Portugal and raised in Brazil, is perhaps most famous for helping to make Brazilian samba music internationally popular. Known as "the Brazilian Bombshell", she was also well known for the outlandish style in which she dressed when performing, usually topped off with a towering headdress made of fruit. This style has served to make her an icon of both camp and caricature. SHE WAS ALSO KNOWN AS QUITE THE COURTESAN OF HER ERA- MUITOS AFFAIRS WITH MUITOS AMANTES.
