Birthe Kjær (born Birthe Kjær Hansen on 1 September 1948 in Århus, Denmark) is a Danish schlager singer and occasional actress who has been performing since the late 1960s. She had made previous bids to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980, 1986 and 1987, finishing as runner-up in the Danish national selection on all occasions, before being chosen in 1989 with the cabaret-style song "Vi maler byen rød", which finished 3rd in the Eurovision Song Contest and is considered one of Birthe Kjær's signature songs.
