At one point in his career, he had a conversation with an A&R from Columbia Records who changed his outlook on the game. Told that he wouldn't end up with much despite initially huge signing advances, Birmingham has decided to keep his day job and maintain music as his hobby. The label exec advised him to build up his spins and sales locally to make the labels come to him. With that in mind, he teamed up with Kottage Boy Entertainment, which also owns a chain of music stores throughout Alabama.
