Composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Benoît Burello is the driving force and key figure in the group he put together. Since 1995, under the deceptively cosy Bed moniker, he's been setting lyrics by his favourite authors — the likes of Henry David Thoreau, Henry Miller, Walt Whitman and William Carlos Williams — to music. His compositions sound at times like intimate precursors to rock, and are clearly marked by his passion for the jazz of Ornette Coleman, the spacey sounds of Cale, the explosive energy of Sonic Youth and the musical freedom as well as discretion of Mark Hollis.
