Assembling Susan
Assembling Susan
Hailing from the musical melting pot that is Seattle, Assembling Susan finds themselves in a world that is a multitude of genres--everything from pop to death metal to harsh noise--and effectively says "fuck you" to it all. One listen to their altogether quirky debut, "Modular Potato", lets you know exactly where the two collaborators that make up Assembling Susan--Omar FannyWampus and Nikki da Squid--stand influentally speaking: nowhere.

One listen to their altogether quirky debut, "Modular Potato", lets you know exactly where the two collaborators that make up Assembling Susan--Omar FannyWampus and Nikki da Squid--stand influentally speaking: nowhere. Standout tracks like "Pizzarm", "Pebbles In A Store", or the gem that is "ChPimpin' Tha Beatizzles" (a spastic remix/cover/parody of The Beatles' "Lonely People") are all signs that Assembling Susan has no roots in any genre, and has no barriers for musical expansion either. It would seem that switching from squealing electronics with errant screeching ("Star Trek Is The New Shit") to borderline chaos ("...Steve Jobs...") is what this group does best, completely shattering the listener's expectation from song-to-song, even within the same song at times ("Pizzarm" being a good example).
In the end, those inclined to Obsessive-Compulsive behavior regarding band classification will find Assembling Susan to be close to Venetian Snares, perhaps even Squarepusher, with an almost comedic value to their musical endeavors that is more than likely drug-induced. But as is the case with a debut album that can be best described as an autistic 5 year-old with a flamethrower, featuring song titles that range from "Charizard's Klingon Infestation Of Pseudomorphic Fleabopods" to "DeeP FrIEd ManAtEe PeOple" (with the capitalization just like that), its a question that is probably best left unanswered. ("Modular Potato" Extended Version features bonus track "Taco Happy 7=Mordecai".) - Landon Martin Assembling Susan on MySpace: www.myspace.com/assemblingsusan User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License and may also be available under the GNU FDL..
