Apodimi Compania

Apodimi Compania was formed in the mid 1980s by a group of music enthusiasts then studying at Melbourne University in the Classics and Hellenistic studies department, under the tutorage of noted rebetika scholar Stathis Gauntlet. The original members were all second and third generation Greek/Australians including George and Manuel Galiatsos. Hector Cosmas joined the band in 1989. Apodimi became well-known for its love and commitment to the performance of authentic rebetika and demotika (folk or regional tunes) on traditional acoustic instruments.
