Antarktīda
Antarktīda
Antarktīda is a collaboration of three musicians from Rīga, Latvia - Imants Daksis, Gas of Latvia and Jēkabs Voļatovskis. All of them have been in the experimental music scene for a while and each carries his own personal set of views, ideals and attitudes. They have joined forces in 2008 (?) to manifest the common call to attention towards the highly important transpersonal issues in the transiting society and space.

The live performances of Antarktīda involve three vocals combined with analogue synthesizers and specially designed sound / noise sources along with near-ritualistic, shamanic experience which is close to improvisation. Exploration of sound and individual perception aims to touch the true natures of the auditor’s senses and mind, creating an unforgettable, clear and powerful impact.
The youngest member Imants Daksis gained attention as a psycho-folk solo singer.
Imants is 24 years old, and already has produced 12 albums and about 300 songs. Jēkabs Voļatovskis has been working alone as a metal artist and noise musician. He is also responsible for constructing the engine which is utilised to make a unique vocal performance. The man behind the Gas of Latvia is Andris Indāns aka Andžons - the most veteran Latvian electronic musician, who emerged in the early 90s post-industrial cassette-tape scene. He mixes his love for the experimental ambient / noise electronic sound with melodic themes and ethnic elements as well to create a unique blend of groovy electronic music. Recently Gas of Latvia has been slightly moving towards “live”, analogue sound.
Once player in a punk scene, Gas of Latvia still evolves in a rebelliously unpredictable way, searching for the exit out of the pre-planned and forseenable existence. Album "Antarktīdai un Brīvībai" ("Homage to Antartica and Freedom") is a trip toward the unknown, surpassing different margins in music, namely dark ambient and industrial noise. The tracks were recorded and mixed during several sessions in different adapted places of Latvia between 2008 and 2009. Analogue electronic devices were combined in experimental connections with acoustic and custom made electroacoustic instruments. http://www.myspace.com/antarktida User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License and may also be available under the GNU FDL..
