Anatomy of Hope formed way back in 1984 in Chicago, traveled to New York, back to Chicago and finally ended up on The Big Island of Hawaii. Founding member Kiyoshi Najita (also of Big Empty Field and Flower) remains the only consistent member. Past members include Tzvi Lichtenstein (guitar, bass, vocals), Doug O'Roark (bass), Ian James of Flower (bass) and Beth McCormack of Carrie Nation (vocals).

Their second album, We'll Do Things Our Friends Will Not Do, was recorded in Hawaii and released in 2001. The band's sound is rooted in the guitar-driven postpunk of the late 80s and early 90s.
