Amber Spyglass

By claiming such varied and genre-defining artists as Siouxsie and the Banshees, PJ Harvey, DJ Shadow and Led Zeppelin as cornerstones, Amber Spyglass evoke sentiments from a variety of minor-key rock sub-genres. From the complex organic rhythms and middle-eastern motifs of "Catalyst Groove" to the kinetic pop of "Hand in Position" exists a common thread: the seductive vocals of Kelly Godshall accompanied by a chameleon of guitar, John DeGregorio (x-Opium Den, Reflecting Skin, Annette Farrington).

The two met in 1997 in Amber Spyglasss previous incarnation called Orifice which was receiving some attention from having their song Oddity on the Cleopatra compilation Unquiet Grave Vol. 1. John was winding down his tenure with the eminent Boston group Opium Den at the time when Kelly phoned him to see if he would join.

In '99 the group reformed as Amber Spyglass. They have toured the East Coast, performed at South by Southwest in Austin, TX and opened for Faith & The Muse, Attrition and Voltaire. I'm going down into the Land of the Dead with The Amber Spyglass at the moment, and I'm finding it all pretty stressful to be honest.

My favourite thing about Amber Spyglass is probably the Mulefa, but I'm not sure.

@amyjocrofts yeah there's no way they could have ignored it in The Amber Spyglass and that could never have been a U. Still disturbs me...
