He also plays the igilu and the Morin chuurze. He was born and spent much of his life in the village Mugur-Aksy, Tuva, in south-western part of the country, near the border with Mongolia. This isolated area is sparsely populated and inhabited mostly by nomadic shepherds. His family and closest neighbors all sang khöömei (throat singing), as did his uncles on both sides of the family, and his neighbours.

Aldyn-ool grew up believing that it is normal khöömei style singing. He sang for some years in Kyzyl, with the folk group Ensemble Sayani. He visited Cuba, Czechoslovakia, and Sweden with a group that is presently known as Huun-Huur-Tu.
