Active Ingredients Quintet

Active Ingredients is comprised of musicians that are also members of the renowned Garfield High School Jazz program, which has won nearly every major competition on the west coast. Under the direction of Clarence Acox, Garfield Jazz has taken top honors at the Reno, Lionel Hampton, and the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festivals multiple times. Before Garfield High School, each combo member attended Washington Middle School, which has also been recognized for its excellent jazz programunder the direction of the now retired Robert Knatt.

Active Ingredients has performed with acclaim at the More Music @ the Moore concert--a Seattle tradition--and at the Edmonds Jazz Connection, as well as at numerous farmers markets and events.

Gabe, Andrew, and Alex are now seniors in high school. Evan and Carmen are juniors. The band was formed in late 2007 as a way to play more contemporary and complex pieces, as well as original compositions.
